South Korean model-turned-actor Hoyeon received international recognition and critical acclaim after the global success of the Netflix original series, Squid Game, in which she played Kan Sae-byeok, also known as Player 067. Within weeks of the show’s release, she racked up millions of Instagram followers and soon became the most-followed Korean actress on the social platform. For her breakout performance on the show, Hoyeon won the Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Hailing from Myeonmok-dong, a suburb of Seoul, Hoyeon began her career as a freelance model in 2011 walking in Seoul Fashion Week. She competed on the fourth season of Korea's Next Top Model and placed as a runner-up. In 2016, she got her big international break when she landed an exclusive global contract with Louis Vuitton. Since then, she has starred in campaigns and walked the runway for designers such Chanel, Fendi, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, and Moschino to name a few. She has also appeared in numerous fashion magazines including international editions of Vogue, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, W, V, and countless others. In 2021, she was tapped by both Louis Vuitton and Adidas as their newest Global Ambassador.
She recently added yet another milestone to her list of accomplishments after appearing on US Vogue‘s February 2022 cover. For the first time in the 130-year history of US Vogue, she became the first South Korean to grace the cover as a solo feature for the coveted fashion magazine.
Hoyeon will be seen next in Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón’s new Apple TV+ series titled Disclaimer. The psychological thriller is based on a best-selling book and stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline and Sacha Baron Cohen. She is also set to star as one of the leads in a new Korean feature Hope, directed by Na Hong-Jin.
